Adult Instructions
- Wash hands.
- Open kit.
- Gloves and underpad may be used for protection if necessary.
- Remove the cap from the introducer tip and slide the catheter to within 1/8” (2 mm) of the top of the silicon tip. Be careful NOT to slide the catheter past the introducer tip yet.
- MALES: Clean urethral meatus and surrounding area with antiseptic swabsticks provided. With the non-dominant hand hold the penis steady at the base of the glans. With the dominant hand insert the introducer tip into the urethra. Hold it securely in place with the thumb and forefinger of the non-dominant hand, while still grasping the base of the penis with the remaining fingers. Once you have steadied the penis and secured the introducer tip in place, use the dominant hand to grasp the catheter through the bag close to the base of the introducer shaft and slowly push it through the introducer tip and into the urethra. Continue to slide the catheter through the urethra in short 2-3 inch movements until the catheter reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow.
FEMALES: Clean urethral meatus and surrounding area with antiseptic swabsticks provided by holding the outer labia apart. With the non-dominant hand hold inner labia apart, using the dominant hand to insert the introducer tip into the urethra. Secure it in place with thumb and forefinger of the non-dominant hand. Use the dominant hand to grasp the catheter through the bag close to the base of the introducer shaft. Slowly push it through the introducer tip and into the urethra. Continue to slide the catheter through the urethra in short 2-3 inch movements until the catheter reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow.
- When urine drainage is complete, slowly withdraw introducer tip and catheter from urethra.
- To empty bag, tear downwards at perforation located at top of bag above “To Empty Tear Here” and pour out urine through opening.
- Dispose of bag properly.
Pediatric Instructions
Indications for use:
An intermittent urinary catheter that is inserted through the urethra and indicated for the purpose of bladder drainage for pediatric males and females. The urinary catheter comes in a variety of sizes packaged sterile for single-use.
Clinical setting: To be used by professionals only
Target Population: Children (2 - ‹ 12 years old) and
Adolescents (12 - ‹ 18 years old)
Warnings:
Not made with natural rubber latex.
Precautions:
- Intended for one-time use.
- Sterile if the package is unopened or undamaged. Do not use if package is broken.
- Caution: Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.
No known contraindications.
Female Intermittent Catheterization Instructions
- Gather needed supplies (catheter, water-soluble lubricant)
- Wash hands with soap and water.
- Urinate if you can.
- Spread labia and lift up.
- Cleanse the urethral opening from front to back.
- Remove catheter from package.
- Squeeze lubricant on the first 2-3 inches of the catheter that will be going into the urethra. Lubricant must be water-soluble.
- Spread labia apart and slowly and gently insert the catheter into the urethra in an upward and backward direction approximately 2 inches, until urine flows.
- Allow bladder to empty completely.
- Remove the catheter, slowly rotating it as you withdraw. Stop each time more urine drains out.
- To completely remove the catheter, pinch off the end and pull it out. This prevents urine from flowing back into the bladder.
- Check for any unusual odor and/or cloudy hazy urine.
Male Intermittent Catheterization Instructions
- Gather all supplies needed. (catheter, water soluble lubricant )
- Wash hands with soap and water.
- Urinate if you can.
- Hold penis up with one hand and cleanse the tip as instructed by your medical professional. Wash in a circular motion starting at the urethra and working outward.
- Open the package and lubricate the catheter end that will be going into the urethra. Lubricant must be water-soluble.
- Holding the penis upward, slowly and gently insert the catheter into the urethra.
- Once you have passed one half length of the catheter through the urethra, lower the penis and slide the catheter the rest of the way into the bladder until urine flows.
- Allow the bladder to empty completely.
- To remove the catheter, slowly rotate it lets you withdraw it. Stop each time more urine drains.
- To completely remove the catheter, pinch off the end and pull it out. This will prevent urine from flowing back into the bladder.
- Check for any unusual odor and/or cloudy hazy urine.
